Odyssey of the Mind

“Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.

In Odyssey of the Mind, students learn at a young age skills that will last a lifetime. They work in teams so they learn cooperation and respect for the ideas of others. They evaluate ideas and make decisions on their own, gaining greater self-confidence and increased self-esteem along the way.

The problems appeal to a wide range of interests; some are technical in nature, while others are artistic or performance-oriented. Under our guidance, teams work on their solutions throughout the school year and, if they choose, present them in organized competitions in the spring. TEC’s team consists of 7 students.  There are 4 students from 4^th grade and 3 students from 5^th grade.

Just Say No

Just Say No is a club which involves 5th grade students.  Students sign a pledge to live a drug and substance free lifestyle.  The Just Say No Club is involved with many community activities such as United Way, collecting food for Thanksgiving, and Toys for Tots.

Fun and Fitness

This club consists of nearly 100 students in grades 3, 4, and 5 who stay after school one day a week.  Club Advisors formed this club to encourage students to increase their physical activity and to learn about healthy foods.  Each time the club meets, students and advisors walk or fun a mile.  A nutritious snack is provided and students then participate in small or large group activities.  Special activities included a visit by a personal trainer, bowling and swimming field trips, and a 3 mile community walk.  We also raise money for the American Cancer Society by participating in a 2 mile walk/run.
