Welcome to our world of curriculum, a realm of new and intriguing experiences that awaits the students of the Pocono Mountain School District at each grade level.  An often heard criticism of American schools, that unfortunately has a measure of merit, is that we are slow to change, that schools today still look like schools of the past.  We believe at Pocono Mountain that learning needs to be dynamic, that classrooms need to become laboratories, incubators, and places where students literally experience learning.

The age-old analogy of the learning process as a vessel into which the teacher pours knowledge, must be cast aside.  Rather, teachers at Pocono Mountain are constantly encouraged to have active classrooms in which the learning experience mirrors reality, if not “is” reality.  We have learned from the current research on the brain that “he who talks, learns.”  Therefore, the curriculum must be vibrant, alive, and interactive.  What we have prepared for you, the visitor to our site, is a curriculum overview that links to the actual courses of study for each subject area, at each grade level.

While this is not MTV, it is everything we have in our archives on our curriculum.  We share it with you proudly!  Should you have any questions, please send an e-mail to Dr. Elizabeth Robison, erobison@pmsd.org, for elementary curriculum questions and Dr. Milton James, mjames@pmsd.org for secondary curriculum questions.  We would be more than happy to discuss or explain our curriculum, which is in essence the lifeblood of the Pocono Mountain educational system.  Enjoy the browsing!
